Welcome to the Library Media Center!
Hello! I am Mrs. Venable, your library media specialist. I have served many roles since my employment with Roanoke City Public Schools in 1999. Prior to becoming the Library Media Specialist at Morningside, I was an elementary classroom teacher and an instructional coach. During my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the beach, reading books, and going to the movies.
As the elementary librarian I strive to incorporate the following American Association of School Librarians Standards Framework in our library setting and lessons:
1-Encourage library patrons to build new knowledge by inquiring, thinking critically, identifying problems, and developing strategies for solving problems
2- Encourage library patrons to demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to inclusiveness and respect for diversity in the learning community
3- Work effectively with others to broaden perspective and work toward common goals
4- Make meaning for oneself and others by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevance
5- Discover and innovate in a growth mindset developed through
experience and reflection
6- Demonstrate safe, legal, and ethical creating and sharing of
knowledge products independently while engaging in a
community of practice and an interconnected world
